Week 14.

Where: Vienna, Austria

It’s hard to believe my time here is over. Fourteen weeks is the longest I’ve been away from home, and certainly the longest amount of time I’ve spent outside of the USA.

meanwhile, back in Vienna 🍂

Week 13.

Where: Vienna, Austria

This past week, I did a fair amount of sightseeing, aerial silks, work, and one very long hike through the wine country just north of the city. I started my Saturday with a kung fu class at the Shaolin temple….

Week 12.

Where: Prague, CzechiaVienna, Austria

Also known as “the city of a hundred spires,” Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, which is the part of Europe that used to be known as Bohemia. Funny thing about that— the term “bohemian” is derived from a mistaken assumption by the French….

Vienna waits for you ✨

Week 11.

Where: Vienna, Austria

There is only a handful of songs that consistently make me tear up a bit when I hear them: Billy Joel’s Vienna is one of them.

I forgot the Turkish Delight

Week 10.

Where: Ayvalik Istanbul, Turkey

It’s official— I never had Turkish Delight when I was in Turkey, mostly because I kept putting it off and didn’t want to get stuck paying the “tourist prices” at the local spice shops. I’m sure C.S. Lewis is smiling down on me.

Week 9, Q1

Where: Istanbul → Ayvalik, Turkey

The travel fatigue has still been hitting me rather hard. For the most part, I took another easy week in Istanbul this last week.

Week 8, Q1

Where: Cappadocia → Istanbul, Turkey

I’m a day late with this email again. I have no excuse, other than general weariness. But better late than never!

Last Saturday, I took an early morning flight to the inland region of Cappadocia….

Istanbul! 🕌 (not Constantinople!)

Week 7, Q1

Where: Istanbul, Turkey

First things first: I made it to Istanbul!

Second thing: I don’t have Instagram anymore 🥳 I deactivated both accounts yesterday with no intention of logging on again.

ahhh, Venice ⛲

Week 6, Q1

Where: Venice Rome, Italy

“Ahhhh, Venice!” is one of my favorite lines from the slightly under-appreciated film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Last weekend, I finally got to say the words myself as I arrived in the famed City of Water…

Week 5, Q1

Where: Rome, Italy

First of all— I didn’t mean to send this out two days late! I realized sometime Friday that I had no time to put a blast together between work and packing for Venice last weekend, so….

Week 4, Q1

Where: Pompei Positano Capri, & back to Rome

I can’t believe I’m already halfway through my time here in Italy. Time flies!

Week 3, Q1

Where: Rome, Italy

I know, I know— red wine doesn’t go with carbonara. But isn’t my Italian getting good? Grazie mille.

I’m on a boat ⛵

Week 2, Q1

Where: The Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

That subject really just wrote itself, didn’t it?

Last Saturday, I flew from Zagreb to Split/Šibenik area for an experience I’ve been dying to be a part of since I first heard about it ~5 years ago: Aerial Cruise Croatia.

Week 1 cont’d, Q1

Where: Zagreb, Croatia

If I were to summarize the last few days in a single word, it would be frustrating. My checked bag was lost by the airline somewhere between Boston and Zagreb, and, being the pure optimist that I am, I assumed I would never get it back in time for the aerial cruise, which starts today….

Week 1, Q1

Where: Texas, Croatia

I will miss this city. It’s not perfect, but it’s been a great home for the last ten (!) years. I’m already excited to come back full time and settle into my condo, if/when it’s ever done being built!

As of this writing, I’m sitting in a very empty airport terminal in Lisbon, Portugal, having just barely made my flight from Boston….
