If I were to summarize the last few days in a single word, it would be frustrating. My checked bag was lost by the airline somewhere between Boston and Zagreb, and, being the pure optimist that I am, I assumed I would never get it back in time for the aerial cruise, which starts today. So, yesterday, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and replenish my wardrobe and toiletries. I found an H&M nearby and restocked on enough t-shirts, yoga pants, and swimsuits, and various necessities to get me through until Rome. Of course, as soon as I got back to my Airbnb, I removed all the tags and threw everything into the washing machine. A few minutes after starting the second load, I got a call: “I am looking for a Jordan Bishop?” “Yes! Oh yes, that’s me, did you find my bag?” “Yes we have it, we can deliver it when it’s convenient for you, or you can pick it up.” SUPER happy that my bag has been found (and I’ve since picked it up and inspected that nothing broke, leaked, or went missing). VERY annoyed that I dropped so much money on clothes I ended up not needing. (Side note: H&M has great T-shirts! I never knew.) Between powering through my jet lag, picking up necessities, and working, I was not able to see nearly as much of Zagreb as I would’ve liked. However, I did get the opportunity to walk all over the old parts of the city. Much of the architecture is apparently Hapsburgian, as this region used to be a part of the Hapsburg empire. Even though I don’t speak the language or know anyone here, I had a surreal realization: I honestly felt safer wandering around Zagreb than I do getting around downtown Austin. I’d like to come back to Zagreb at some point and at least see a few of the museums and the cathedral. It looks really beautiful. The city parks that I saw were also really lovely. I may come back through here on my way to Istanbul in September. Now that my bag is in the same country as me, and now that I seem to have mostly acclimated to the time zone, I’m excited to find a real groove and get the feel for the upcoming cities that I’ll be spending more time in. But first, the aerial cruise!
